Confederate Memorial Day

May 2004

Montford Point Cemetery
Jacksonville, NC
Return
In the south, the memory of the Confederate soldiers of 1861-1865 are honored with Confederate Memorial Day. Each southern state has its own date... North Carolina recognizes it officially every May 10... the day Stonewall Jackson died. Most North Carolina soldiers fought under Jackson's command thus the reason for the date. Locally, the Sunday after Mother's Day we have a service at Montford Point Cemetery where over 30 CS soldiers are buried.
